Mariam is a family law solicitor with over 10 years of experience. Her particular area of expertise is dealing with children matters. She worked as a public law children’s lawyer at a renowned national firm for the majority of her early career and has vast experience in child protection, domestic violence and working with vulnerable parents.
Her experience extends to child arrangements, specific issues and prohibited steps orders. Given Mariam’s own diverse background and her ability to speak Arabic fluently she has developed an international client base spanning across the Middle East which extends to international child relocation and child abduction matters. She provides her clients with a bespoke service from start to finish taking into account the intricacies of their unique cultural background whilst taking care of any language barriers that can often complicate matters for clients.
Mariam carries out her own advocacy in the Family and High Court.
Mariam holds a weekly pro bono clinic through the Iraqi Welfare Association, a 35 year old heritage charity to which she was recently elected as Board Trustee.
In her free time, Mariam enjoys spending time outdoors with her young family or going to the gym.
“Mariam is currently representing me in my family matter and it is a blessing to have her doing this for me. She is very informative and helpful. She gives me huge reassurance and goes the extra length to assist. This is a lawyer whom takes pride in her job and put her client’s well being above all. I recommend her anytime.”
Ms. Ahmed Ibrahim
“When I contacted Mariam, having been looking for a Family Solicitor to help me, I was beyond help. I was broken-hearted, hopeless, and in desperate need for anyone to help me see my boys after my x-wife took them away from me. She got me what I wanted from the Family Court. She asked for reasonable fees that I could afford and kindly she let me pay it within a long span in instalments. No one else could ever do this for me in my entire life. She was very laid back professional who advised me to ask for the reasonable doeable rights from the court. She was also a kind advisor, not only a Solicitor, who explained to me the necessity to be calm and do not rush things or exasperate my problems. At the end, now I can see my boys by Court Orders that Ms Mariam Bakir secured for me. God Bless her. I recommend her to my friends in the Iraqi community with no hesitation.”
Mr A. Al-Ghalibie
“I am immensely grateful for the exceptional support provided by Mariam during one of the most challenging periods of my life. She made the process as smooth and manageable as possible. Her comprehensive understanding of family law ensured that I was well-informed of my rights and options every step of the way. I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone in need of competent legal advice and representation.”
Mr Ahmed Al-Saadi
“I recommend Mariam because of her excellent experience and quick response to provide me with a professional consultation and finding the best legal solutions in addition to her sincere and kind approach with clients. I preferred to entrust my family case to her because of the positive difference I found in her approach compared to others I had approached.”
Ms Ferah Mohammed
“Mahmood Ghaznavi chambers LLC had the pleasure of engaging Mariam Bakir as an expert to provide a legal opinion on the legality of muslim marriages in England and Wales for use in the Sharia Court of the Republic of Singapore. We found her knowledge of family law to be vast. The Sharia Court of Singapore found her advice most helpful and relied on it in it’s decision.”
Mr Reza Ghaznavi
“I am thrilled to have Mariam Bakir as my trusted legal advisor. Mariam has been instrumental in helping me navigate the complex world of family law. Her expertise, professionalism and empathy have been invaluable in achieving the best possible outcome for my situation.”
Mr A. Mahdi
“What sets Mariam apart is her ability to listen attentively, understand my needs and provide clear and concise guidance throughout the legal process. Her communication is prompt and she was always available to address my questions and concerns. What I appreciate most about Mariam is her personal touch and her willingness to go above and beyond to ensure I received the best possible outcome. She is kind, gentle, considerate and above all, a decent human being. Not all solicitors encompass these attributes alongside their professional role but when they do, they can be called Mariam Bakir. Mariam is a true expert in her field and has earned my trust and respect.”
